Beginning Blacksmithing Workshop
This three day introductory workshop will include: how to build and maintain a fire; how to identify color, draw, and upset steel; how to set up a modern shop; and how to utilize the anvil’s horn. The class will also touch on forge welding and heat treating. Students should wear hard shoes, safety glasses, and gloves. Bring a brown bag lunch, tongs and hammers if possible. All materials provided. No experience required. Open to students 16 and up. PRE-REQUISITE FOR PROJECTS CLASSES. Class meets 9 to 6 daily in the Blacksmith Shop. Min 1 Max 2

Instructor Bio: Greg Bray is currently the Assistant Director and Blacksmith at Pricketts Fort. Greg is the owner and operator of Bray’s Knifeworks where he specializes in the manufacturing of custom made knives and reproductions, gun building, and gun repair. A life-long resident of Fairmont, Greg has been making knives since 1990 and has been blacksmithing for fifteen years, with a particular focus on 18th and 19th century production. He is a juried artisan at Tamarack, which features the best in West Virginia arts.

Instructor Bio: Judy Wilson has been an historical interpreter at Pricketts Fort for fifteen years demonstrating various women’s skills particularly textiles. Judy has been weaving for 20 years and spinning for 34 years. Judy is a member of the Fiber Arts Guild. Shepherd’s Federation, and Weaver’s Guild of America.

Create an Historical Play in a Day! *KIDS WORKSHOP
Spend a day at the Fort creating an original play about life on the 18th c frontier. Participants will interview historical interpreters, create characters, brainstorm and rehearse a 20 min play to be performed that evening. Bring a bag lunch and your imagination! Join us for a unique shopping experience in an historic enviroment. Artisans will demonstrate and feature works for sale in the Fort's Visitor Center. The Market area is open free of charg
e and live music will be featured daily. The Fort buildings and Job Prickett House will be decorated for the season and costumed interpreters will give tour. Tours require a ticket. Food will be available. |
