APRIL

April 3-6 School of the Longhunter

An intense weekend of instruction exploring the role of early frontiersmen on the American frontier. Speakers will focus on the frontier skills of the long hunter. Space is limited and registration required. Visitors welcome during daytime hours with no admission charge.

April 19, 28 Annual Spring Bird Walk

Come celebrate the joys of spring with Saturday morning Bird Walk. Staff of the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources will lead the public on this annual rite of passage. Programs begin at 8 am. Free and open to the public.

April 25 Jones Imboden Raid Civil War KIDS DAY

School groups are invited to attend a special day of local civil war history commemorating the Jones Imboden Raid of 1863. Civil War re-enactors will provide learning stations for students throughout the day. Regular school tour admission applies.
 

April 26-27 Jones Imboden Raid Civil War Weekend

In April 1863 Confederate forces invaded Fairmont, Virginia (now West Virginia) in an attempt to gain control of the strategic B&O Railroad and capture Francis Pierpont, Governor of the Re-Organized Virginia. The park will commemorate this event through various re-enactments and demonstrations. Regular park admission applies.
 


 

MAY
 

May 3 Annual Spring Bird Walk

Come celebrate the joys of spring with Saturday morning Bird Walk. Staff of the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources will lead the public on this annual rite of passage. Programs begin at 8 am. Free and open to the public.

 

May 17 Sheep to Shawl Day

Come watch how sheep are sheared and then see the various processes involved in preparing wool including carding, spinning and weaving. Regular admission applies.

 

May 26 Memorial Day

Come learn about those who served in various military units throughout the history of Pricketts Fort, including the French and Indian War, revolutionary War and Civil War. Program will take place at 11 am and at 3 pm. Regular admission applies.

 

May 30 Community Band Friday Night Concert

 

Come out for a summer evening of band music by local musicians under the direction of Fairmont State’s Dr. Valarie Huffman. Concerts begin at 7 pm in the park’s outdoor amphitheater. Rehearsals will take place on the previous evenings and are open to anyone. For more information about participating call Dr. Huffman at (304) 367-4206.

 

 



JUNE

 

 

June 20 West Virginia Day Quilt Show

On June 20, 1863, West Virginia became the 35th state to enter the Union. Come and celebrate West Virginia Statehood with $1 park admission, lemonade and birthday cake. Enjoy a quilt display  and demonstration by the Mountain Heritage Quilt Guild.

June 13 - 15 and 19 - 21 Once on This Island

This highly original theatrical program is a Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid. Presented in the outdoor amphitheater by Town and Gown Theatre of the School of Fine Arts at Fairmont State University. Shows start at 8 pm. Rain date June 22. Tickets required. June 23 - 25 Civil War Summer Camp

Spend three days learning about life in the Civil War. Camp meets from 10 - 4 daily and on the third day campers spend the night. Open to students in grades 6 - 12. Fee is $100. (Free to students in GEAR UP schools who are completing the 8th and 9th grades.) Call for registration (304) 363-3030.

July 4th   Independence Day

Celebrate Independence Day with a look back through the eyes of our historic interpreters.

July 4 - 6 and 9 - 13 1776

The seminal event in American history blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. It's the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence... if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! Presented in the outdoor amphitheater by Town and Gown Theatre of the School of Fine Arts at Fairmont State University. Tickets required. Purchase through the Box Office (304) 367-4240.

July 12 Traditional Music Day

 

Enjoy a full day of Traditional Music with musicians scheduled to perform inside the Visitor Center as well as jamming in the park. No admission required for musical activities but tours of the Fort and Job Prickett House require a ticket.

August 1   Free Outdoor Concert – Jim Savarino

Join us at 7 pm for a concert by solo artist Jim Savarino, a native West Virginian singer songwriter writes “folk songs from the 21st century”, drawing on his Appalachian roots.

August 15                                         

Free Outdoor Concert - Mon River Big Band

Join us at 7 pm in the amphitheater for a evening of big band music from this seventeen piece jazz ensemble. The concert is free to the public.

August 16 Dairy Day

Come see how goat milk is processed into butter and cheese. Regular admission applies.

August 29  Free Outdoor Concert – Grkmania

Join us in the amphitheater for this free summer concert starting at 7 pm. Grkmania is a three generation polka band, back by popular demand. Artists will have a meet and greet session after the show.


 

SEPTEMBER

September 12    Free Outdoor Concert – Elmo’s Fire

Join us in the amphitheater for this free summer concert starting at 7 pm with the eight member band, Elmo’s Fire. The group plays classic R & B from the 60s, 70s and 80s.


 

OCTOBER

October 11 - 12 Fall Festival

Enjoy a fall weekend and view traditional crafts and fall activities from the 18th century. Regular admission applies. 

October 24 – 26 18th Century Fall Rendezvous

Encampment portraying the 18th century with period camp, dress, and wares closes out the season. Tours of the fort require a ticket and camp is open to the public viewing without additional charge.



NOVEMBER

November 9 Annual Membership Dinner

Annual membership dinner including business meeting, annual report, entertainment and meal.

November 28 – 30 Annual 18th century Christmas Market

Join us for traditional crafts and live music during this  special winter event.  Tour the Fort and Job Prickett House. Buildings will be decorated for the season and costumed  interpreters will be demonstrating crafts. Shop in the Fort Trading Post and enjoy a cup of hot wassail. The Visitor Center will feature vendors and traditional gift items. Tours of the fort require a ticket and Visitor Center is open without additional charge.
